Notes: This is a single-hopped double IPA. I love single-hopped IPAs where you can really get the character of the hop - and Challenger is an excellent dual-purpose hop. It's a big beer, obviously, and after three brews now, it's become a neighborhood favorite.
I cask-condition it, and serve it through an Angram engine at about 55 degrees F cellar temp.
I use additional LME at 20 minutes to get the initial gravity up as I can only boil about 7 gallons, and I don't like to do 90 minute boils.
The HMS Challenger is one of my best beers! (And when my buds come by expecting to quaff four or five 20 oz. pints, they only try it once!) |
