WARNING: Kettle losses >2% detected which throw off OG calculation for extract/partial mash recipes in batch target 'fermentor' mode. Solution: Reduce kettle dead space, misc losses and hops absorption in equipment profile, OR set batch target to 'kettle' and do a full wort boil. See batch target FAQ.

Notes

Please note this recipe employs Steve Bader's "Boil the Hops, Not the Extract" method. All of the extract is added at knockout after the hops have been boiled.

  • Bring 3 gallons of water to 155 degrees.
  • Steep the grains for 20 minutes.
  • Remove the grains from the pot. You may discard the grains and bring the water to a boil.
  • Boil for a total of 30 minutes. Add hops per schedule above.
  • Remove from heat. Add extract and stir until thoroughly dissolved.
  • Chill to less than 100 degrees.
  • Strain and funnel to fermentor.
  • Add cool tap water until desired volume or gravity is reached.
  • Pitch yeast when temperature is less than 80 degress.

  • When fermentation is complete, prime with corn sugar, table sugar or carbonation drops.
